I have a Sol 9 server and was testing flash archive restores. Only one
of three restores seems to work.
I'm using the FTP option during initial Solaris install to point to
FTP server and specify the archive file ( /test.flar for example).
When I do flar info -l /archivename.flar (on the box hosting the
archive) all the files list OK. During restore ftp phase, on some
archives I get an error saying Invalid Archive, even though the flar
listing shows no errors.
The only difference in archives is the Solaris version on the box
being archived. The ones with Solaris 9 /12 builds seem OK, the ones
with Solaris 9 /04 give me errors. (Not sure if this is related to the
errors though). During archiving of 9 /04 builds, I get a couple of
uuencode errors, but like I said, flar info shows the listing OK. Just
wondering if there is a better way of determining if the created flash
images are valid for actual restores.
I create the archives using: flarcreate -n name -R / -S -c /tmp/
archname.flar
Note, I leave the servers in multi-user mode since going to single-
user is not an option for production boxes. (Docs for flarcreate say
this is OK). After creating the archives, I'm testing restores using a
test server with same hardware as the original flashed server.
Thanks in advance for any hints
Mark
Mark, you are correct. I flash my clients in multiuser mode all the
time. The only time is may give you issues is with a live/running
database. All bets are off there.
Have you checked out the latest patches released to flarcreate? I
normally exlude /tmp and /var/tmp. Though that shouldn't really
matter.
