Hi,
Due to the massive latency between my js server in London and the install client in NYC I'd like to use the Solaris 10 DVD as the client's root and install path (what the SinstPTH and SrootPTH dhcp macros would point to) during my install.
The thing is I would also like to use my London based server for the sysidcfg and the install config (SsysidCF and SjumpsCF respectively) because these are pretty small files and really take the effort out of installing a system.
I have read on the net various (contradictory) ways to accomplish this, none of which work.
My favourite was
"boot cdrom:net - install dhcp"
which unsurprisingly gives this:
Boot device: /pci@8,700000/scsi@1/disk@6,0:net File and args:
Short disk read
(and yes, I do have the most recent obp image installed).
My best results come from forgetting about the sysidcfg for the moment and breaking out of the installer after the initial sysid stuff, mounting my js config on /tmp/install_config and rerunning install-solaris. Of course this leaves most of the SI_ macros unset so is still fairly unusable.
I can give details about my particular setup if need be, so if you've come up against the same sort of thing and help would be appreciated.
If there's a way to boot a Sparc machine using grub over the network (like pxegrub for x86 I guess) I'd like to know too.
yes, you can DHCP boot Sparcs, if using a JumpStart server it is
boot net:dhcp - install
Or if you want Wanboot that is possible as well, have a look at JET
(JumpStart Enterprise Toolkit) at http://www.sun.com/downloads , more info

Slight issue with this. The boot server is in London and the client is in NY. It takes the client forever to boot, and I mean forever. I have left it for days and still haven't seen it finish booting the kernel. In fact I have to hard power-cycle the machine to get it responsive again (sending a break to the console doesn't even get me back to the ok prompt).
Anyway, I had ruled out wanboot for some reason, but have forgotten what it was, so will take another look.
