Hello. I just installed Solaris XDE on my machine (and save for a few
Unix commands, I'm totally new to Solaris).
I managed to get Solaris installed on my system. I can't connect to
the internet.
Here's my machine:
Athlon X2 3800+
nvidia geforce 8400gs 512mb
1.5 gb of DDR RAM
19.1gb hard drive (Solaris partition)
150 gb hard drive (windows XP) (I dual-boot via the bios).
160 gb Hard drive (data)
DFI Infinity nforce4 ultra motherboard
nforce onboard LAN/ethernet
Motorola Wi-Max broadband modem connected to my ethernet port.
What do I need to do?
I would be grateful for some help at this point
The first thing to do is to check the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)
at bigadmin.sun.com. If your hardware is not listed, it's not supported. That does NOT mean that it won't work, just that Sun can't or won't guarantee that it will work
When you installed Solaris, were you prompted for networking information? S8/9/10 all do so when installing from CD/DVD.
You could try executing /usr/sbin/sys-unconfig
The system should reboot and prompt you for a new root password and all the networking configuration info.
See man sys-unconfig for a list of all the configuration files affected.
Be sure to have your machine connected to the network! If it doesn't detect a network connection, it may not invite you to configure it!
