Recover? No.
Change? Yes.
There are a number of ways you can do it, depending upon how recently the
machine was patched. On something this old, even the telnet bug is likely
still there. If it's running telnet, you can probably easily grab a root
shell and do whatever you want. If there aren't any easily exploitable
security holes on it things become more cumbersome. If you have boot media
you can boot off it, go into single-user mode, mount the disk, and wipe the
password. If all else fails, you can pull the boot disk, mount it on
another machine, and change the password there.
