I don't disagree with the arguments, but I don't think they're overly
compelling either. I've been running production machines with combo
root/var since 2.6 days. I can't recall any case where the full
filesystem was associated with corruption or further issues.

Hooray when ZFS boot becomes common and the trade-off here shifts more
to splitting it out.
