If you're that much of a Sun fanboy I suggest csh(1) to honour Bill Joy.
It has (an awkward) command history and aliases.
DESCRIPTION
csh, the C shell, is a command interpreter with a syntax
reminiscent of the C language. It provides a number of con-
venient features for interactive use that are not available
with the Bourne shell, including filename completion, com-
mand aliasing, history substitution, job control, and a
number of built-in commands. As with the Bourne shell, the C
shell provides variable, command and filename substitution.
The funny truth is that the Bourne Shell is closer to the C-syntax thaan the
C-shell.
I see no file name completion in the C-shell and most of the other claims are
not true either.
The text qou are quoting seems to compare the "expected" (but not the real)
behavior of the C-shell in 1978 to what the Bourne shell did in 1978.
The Bourne Shell in

implements file name completion, a history editor, command aliasing via
shell functions, job control and a number of built in commands.
