I'd like to print from my laptop (Solaris Express Community Edition build 91) to this printer too. The laptop has WiFi access to the Blade 2000. The Blade 2000, laptop and printer are all on the same subnet.
Any ideas how to do this either from the GUI, or via the command line?
no but reading
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-7355
should get you started...
I'm still none the wiser.
My HP laserjet is set up using HP's "JetDirect Printer Installer for UNIX"
According to that, the printer (IP 192.168.0.200) is talking TCP/IP. The printer is listening on port 9100, so I assume gets its requests from the Blade 2000 (print sever) there. But clearly to do the same from the laptop would not be sensible, as two machines could potentially write to the printer at the same time.
So I assume the Blade 2000 (print server) has to listen for requests, then pass them to the printer. It's not clear to me if the Blade 2000 is doing this though, as nmap does not show it listening on anything that looks related to printing.
Should it be? If not, I can't understand how it has any hope of processing print requests from a remote workstation, but I'm rather lost here.
