Re: Solaris on PC: power-on auto boot and EEPROM password?

When running Solaris 10 on a garden-variety (not yet purchased)
usually-Microsoft-Windows PC, assuming that MS Windows has been flushed
and the disk only has, and only boots to, Solaris...

1) I'd like the system to act like a server. Is there some way to
configure the EPROM/boot/grub/whatever code so that if power goes
out longer than the UPS can keep things running, and the system shuts
down, and then power comes back on again, that the machine will boot
up without waiting for someone to push a power button?

A lot depends on the PC you buy. Many PCs require a button push to turn on after a power failure. Power does not always come up cleanly and many of the better PCs do not automagically come up at power on in order to avoid startup transients.

2) Sun workstations allowed one to set the EEPROM password so that
actions other than booting the machine required the password. Is
anything like that available with PC boot code?

Thanks in advance!
