Start up TB, use pgrep to see what its pid is. Use truss -p <pid> in a terminal window to attach to it and see what it does when you click on a link. You will presumably see some attempts at exec-ing the wrong browser. In fact you might want -texec to truss as a filter if there's too much data.
If you have a system or login environment where the combo does work, compare the two via truss.
I have not debugged (or used) TB or FF on Solaris myself. This is just how I'd go about diagnosing.
