Any experience in how they run under this kind of load?

Hi,
I Suppose it depends on where your homedirectories are. and if
you are doing
something disk intensive.
The X2200m2 with quad-core Opterons and SAS disks ( 2 ) are
good and cheap for
serviing desktops. But as you only get two 15K SAS drives in the
chassie
you cant have a workload with lots of disk I/O , You need to either
have NFS mounted homedirectories
or use the the 4140 or the 4150 where you can have 8 SAS
disks.

All directorys are now on a E250 in a 3310 and will be moved to a E450
with internal drives once S10 u7 is out, I hope this will work for a 1-2
years more spendning the budget on the desktop for now.
So, the machine will only serve as a SunRay server with xVM running XP
on a few instances.

It depends on price then.
You could sneak 2 2200M2 in your budget to get the reliability.
Otherwise its X4150 - with 2.5Ghz as they seem best bang for buck
etc...
As a long shot - can you wait till xmas? Intel i7 is out around then
which will either push down the price of current stock or will provide
an very good setup.
