Does anyone have a Solaris 10 Patch Cluster for SPARC that I can
download. I need to install it on my machine at home and my SunSolve
account doesn't have the access level for it.

I really can't believe that Sun would shoot themselves in the foot by
charging for patches. It really works against them.

If anyone can me help me out with the download, I would be grateful.

Thanks.

If you download the latest version of Solaris and install it, you should
get all but the most recent fixes. If you need more than that, you
should consider paying Sun for support! ISTR that access to patches
other than security patches is part of the minimum support level. I
think it costs something like $240 US per year. Security patches were

Please, what kind of "sun service" are you talking about?

The "sun service" I'm used to will (1) fix the computer if broken
(2) let me call in with questions.

That sounds to me like hardware and software "service". There are
various "levels" of both kinds of service. The principle differences
between the levels of support are cost and response time.

And because I'm past their 5-yr limit on the ability to BUY such
service, I can't get it (computer "too old", they say).

Now, compared to that, what's this $240 thing? Can *even I* buy it?

<snip>
The "$240 thing" is the lowest level of software support. You get
access to Sunsolve and ALL patches.

I don't have support myself. I'm a hobbyist and it would come out of MY
pocket if I did have it. Sorry, I can't afford it. If one of my Ultra
10s breaks and it's not something I can fix, I'll put it out with the
trash and buy another one on e-Bay. Actually, I might upgrade to a
Blade 100 instead of buying another Ultra 10.

If I have a problem with the software, I'll fix it if I can and learn
to live with it if I can't!

If it physically breaks, or the OS stops working? Can't you keep it and
see if you get one of the BSDs to run on it or <gasp> Linux?
