There's your problem. Set the ports on the switch to autonegotiate and everything will be fine.
Using no link/speed settings on the netboot makes no difference in
boot time oddly enough.
It won't. The speed / duplex you specify in the boot line only makes any difference at all to the stages of the boot before the kernel takes over. Once it gains control it will reinitialise the interface. Since you have turned off autonegotiation on the switch, negotiation will then fail, and the system will ten choose half duplex, as it should.
So, set the ports to auto/auto, do not specify the speed & duplex to the boot command, and everything will be fine.
