There are old tools called "xawtv" that used to do this, but it's
usually awkward and fairly fragile to synchronize an X session between
two devices. VNC in its current configuration might be configurable to
do this.
But the easiest way is to buy a commercial video splitter and send it to
2 identical monitors.
Me, I'd stay out of adding video cards to these workstations: they're
sensitive enough to hardware oddities, and their X release is generally
pretty out of date and would lack good support for the latest/greatest
video cards.
