By removing or changing the rc scripts, patches will become a minor
issue. You will need to baseline before you patch. This procedure is
described in the patch kit documentation, which comes with the patch kits.
We keep stuff from starting by first trying to disable it using a
variable in rc.config, or rc.config.common and failing that, we have our
own rc script that kills all the services we didn't want. This script
runs last and just calls the other rc scripts to kill the services.
It's crude, but it works.
It'd be nice if something like SGI/Linux's chkconfig were in the OS. Or
at the very least, each rc script had its own variable to allow you to
opt out of starting the service.
