    Essentially, I did that. (Actually I accidentally messed up the
    proplistd) Then the file operations over NFS started to succeed but
    with an error message about proplist. When I booted the NFS server,
    everything was OK. My diagnosis is, that an increasing number of
    client processes was getting hung with the proplistd. Booting
    just the server did not help, the client processes got immediately
    stuck again. I should have booted both the clients and the server
    simultaneously. This would be consistent with my feeling that
    the problem was getting worse all the time.
