AlphaServer 1200 powering off by itself.

i think it may be heat related, but no way i can really tell /what's/ getting hot. after the machine has been running for the better part of 2-3 days it will just power off. the time is much shorter (6-12 hrs) if there's heavy activity on it (cpu and IO). after it powers off i can't turn it back on until it's been sitting for at least an hour. the power light will come one and within 5 seconds it's off again.
any idea how to check what may be wrong?

dual 533mhz
256MB (2x 16x72)
7 18gig drives
"stock" #9 video
3com 3c905c (does it with the DEC NIC that it came with as well)
