Is it possible for you to check what version it was exactly ? I'd be grateful.
i looked through my CDs and finally found it. it was 4.1 beta and i was wrong, there were only 3 discs, not 4.
there were tricks involved in getting it to boot on SRM systems once installed, but i never had an issue booting from the install CD.
IIRC they try to use MILO which is only for ARC (AlphaBIOS, whatever) systems. I had to use aboot instead. i ended up using a Gentoo disc b/c i couldn't see a method for doing it via their installer
btw:

11:56PM up 22:02, 4 users, load averages: 2.00, 2.02, 2.03
still kickin' [knocks on wood]
i hope the power supply did the trick. it would normally have failed by now under the load it has. a couple more days and i'll be convinced.
