i think that was it (or maybe cleaning the power supply connectors). i even did a full system upgrade on the box (cvs new source and ports tree, buildworld, and portupgrade involving hours of compile time) and rebooted a couple of times. amazing! i think i'll disconnect the power supply connectors on "omega" and clean those too to see if that helps with the powering off upon reboot issue.
